This Coore and Crenshaw golf course is nestled in the sanhills golf country of North Carolinajust a few miles from Pinehurst. True to form it was carved out with very little disruption
of the natural forest. Now ranked in the Golf Digest top 30 of public courses.
This Crenshaw and Coore course started as a 'pure' walking golf course that covers more than 300 rolling acres of land with 100-foot elevation changes, two natural lakes, and pine and hardwood forests, and no houses visibile on the course.
Wide fairways, light rough and greens that roll true mean players can shoot a number when they are playing well, but the multiple angles of approach to the true but undulating greens require a plan of attack. On some holes, the approach absolutely means the difference.
The Dormie Club was initially an invitation-only, private membership golf course. Because of the economic situatiion, it transitioned into some non-member play and eventually into public play which has now earned it the #30 ranking in Golf Digest's Top 100 Public Courses and made it accessible to more golfers who can appreciate it.
