The Kids Read Now program offers 10 unique steps to reading success: 1. Books kids want and kids keep. Students select 9 books from a catalog of 49 bestsellers and classics, with the help of their teacher to match reading ability to book difficulty. Students get to keep every book they receive, developing a sense of pride and ownership and building a personal library for each child. 2. In-school spring kick-off. Students watch a fun video in class and receive their sign-up sheet and book wish list. Students who return their sign-up sheet get a free Kids Read Now backpack! 3. Kids Read Now…starring KIDS! Students can visit the Kids Read Now website to watch book spots filmed by other students explaining why the love our books. 4. Family Reading Night. Kids Read Now hosts a Family Reading Night workshop at every school where parents learn how to read more effectively to and with their children and students receive their first 2 books. 5. Weekly outreach all summer long. Student progress is tracked through weekly interactive phone calls, text messages, and interactive smart-phone push notification app. 6. Weekly follow-up. Kids Read Now staff and Community Reading Coordinators reach out to non-responsive homes to help families overcome barriers to reading success. 7. Drive comprehension. Discovery Sheets sent with each book provide a variety of activities to increase comprehension, critical thinking skills, and creative problem-solving. 8. Family engagement. Discovery Sheets are designed to encourage active engagement from parents and family members to turn reading into a family experience and make reading a family priority. 9. Motivation and reward. Every week students read one book, they earn their next book. Books arrive just a few days later in the mail… Kids love mail! 10. Data-driven results. Students receive pre- and post-program NWEA testing, analyzed by Kids Read Now to determine each student's reading progress.
